So I do the timing belt kit the water pump and the alternator. So I order the stuff for the timing belt since you do them together but when I get the belt off it's the alternator pulley. Well the car starts making noises from the belts, it's obviously a pully so I assume it's the water pump. Okay, no big deal I still have 10k miles, I'll do it next year. Then I start reading the maintenance schedule on this thing and that was the moment I realized this thing has a timing belt that has to be replaced at 97000 miles. I change it and the car is okay for a week. I change the oil and found the guy before used the wrong filter and wrong weight.

This code could be something simple or something awful. Ok maybe it the wiring or something, but now it has thrown a P0011 code.

Ah okay, the thermostat is bad that explains the coolant loss. The first time the CEL came on it threw code P0599. That is my biggest regret because the next week later the car fell apart. The car is so simple I didn't really research it. NO codes, no pending codes, the only clues that anything is wrong was low coolant. I bought this car private party with 86000 miles and everything looked fine.

I really do not understand how such a simple car can be so awful. It's also nice to be able to fold down the seats and have all that extra space in the back. In my opinion it's a very spacious car I have many friends who are taller and they have no issues sitting in the back. So many things I loved about it still gets pushed aside due to it being unreliable in hot temperatures. Going back to Toyota when I can find one I want. Feel like I got a lemon, this experience has made me decide I will never buy a Chevy again. I would not recommend this card to anybody because I also see many other people have the same problems. If getting it fixed all the problem I would have easily read it this a great car, however since I have to keep fixing the same thing over and over I'm very frustrated.

Thermostat and thermostat housing has been replaced twice. Still have issues with it to this day, nothing like driving around and almost passing out in your car because it's so hot. Got my car brand new in June of 2013 and had issues with it's AC within a year. Note: Due to changes in EPA testing to more effectively reflect real-world conditions, some 2017 models show slightly lower fuel-economy scores than their 2016 versions. In our experience, we found no reason not to like any of the transmission choices.ĮPA city/highway fuel economy: 25/33 mpg (5-speed manual), 24/34 mpg (6-speed automatic)ġ48 lb-ft of torque 2,500 rpm (manual)/1,850 rpm (automatic)ĮPA city/highway fuel economy: 28/38 mpg (6-speed manual), 27/36 mpg (6-speed automatic)

For that, the 1.8-liter is available with a 5-speed manual transmission, the turbo 1.4-liter with a 6-speed manual, and both can be matched with a 6-speed automatic. The pricier alternative is a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that’s sportier and makes more torque, and thus goes quicker, but has as its main advantage a 2-5-mpg gain in highway fuel economy, depending on transmission. The base 1.8-liter 4-cylinder cranks out good power and is entirely adequate, especially for younger drivers. There are two engine choices for the Sonic, each more than merely acceptable.
